K-State Weather Data Library

The Weather Data Library currently has two types of weather stations – 3-meter towers, which take fewer weather variables, and mesonet (9-meter) towers, which have more weather sensors, including wind speed and direction. In addition to near real-time conditions, the WDL has historical weather records dating to 1850.

Kansas Mesonet

K-State Research & Extension weather stations are at the root of the Kansas Mesonet. Most of the sites are located on private lands with permission of the cooperating land owners.

CoCoRaHS

The Community Collaborative Rain, Hail and Snow (CoCoRaHS) Network is a unique, nonprofit, community-based network of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds working together to measure and map precipitation (rain, hail and snow).

Climate Prediction Center Forecasts

The Climate Prediction Center is responsible for issuing seasonal climate-outlook maps for one to 13 months in the future. In addition, the CPC issues extended-range outlook maps and several special outlooks, such as degree day, drought and soil moisture, and a forecast for the daily ultraviolet radiation index.

CPC Weekly El Niño Southern Oscillations (ENSO) Update

Figures depicting sea-surface temperatures, outgoing longwave radiation, atmospheric circulation and subsurface ocean structure across the tropical Pacific, updated Monday.

Joint Agricultural Weather Facility

Housed at the U.S. Department of Agriculture, JAWF monitors the weather and assesses its likely effects on crops around the world.

National Weather Service

NWS is a component of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, which is an operating unit of the U.S. Department of Commerce. The service’s mission is to provide weather, water and climate data; forecasts; and warnings to protect life and property and to enhance the national economy. It has a mobile website for handheld devices.

DTN Ag Weather

DTN is a leading source for agriculture-weather forecasts.
•

AgFax Soil Temps

Seeds generally “wake up” and germinate when soil moisture and temperature conditions are correct for them to grow.

AccuWeather

Apps for mobile devices also are available from AccuWeather.
•

Intellicast

WSI provides apps for iPad and Android devices.
•

Weather Channel

The Weather Channel also has a variety of tools for mobile devices.
•

Weather Underground

A variety of apps are also available for smartphones and tablets.

Scott Kennedy of Sheridan County took third in the value contest with P31A22X soybeans that came to a value at $12.4616.

Taking second in the 2020 value contest was Dale Longenecker of Dickinson County. He entered Asgrow 35X9 soybeans with a value of $12.4679. The value is determined by analyzing protein, oil and additional value-added qualities.

Rounding out our social media highlights of 2020 contest winners, let's recognize our value contest top three. In first place, Brooks Farm of Norton County entered P31A22X soybeans that came in with a value of $12.5087.
