Educators learn how to incorporate soybean lesson plans into their classroom

Following a year off, Soybean Schools made a return in 2022 at six locations across the state. K-State Research and Extension district offices in Beloit, Holton, Newton, Parsons, Oakley and Great Bend hosted the free gatherings with a lineup of guest speakers from extension staff and Kansas State University agronomy.

“One of the things I enjoy most about Soybean Schools is interacting with farmers. That is something we had been missing,” Ignacio Ciampitti says. Ciampitti is a K-State Associate Professor of Crop Production and Cropping Systems and one of the event planners.

Ciampitti describes Soybean Schools as a one-stop shop for soybean production. Some key issues on the 2022 agendas included balanced soil nutrition for soybeans growth, discussing the ever-changing relationship between herbicides and weeds and how soybeans best fit into a crop rotation. Hearing the latest soybean production practices ahead of the growing soybean provides farmers with the right tools to grow their best beans.

The Kansas Soybean Commission sponsored a meal for attendees in each location.
