  • 1 package (0.25 ounce) rapid-rise yeast
  • 1 cup warm (105–115 F) water
  • 3–3½ cups soy-flour blend
  • ½ cup grated cheddar cheese
  • ¼ cup vegetable (soybean) oil
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Egg wash

  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tablespoon water

Combine yeast and warm water in mixing bowl; stir to dissolve. After 5–10 minutes, when yeast begins to foam and bubble, add 1 cup soy-flour blend, cheese, vegetable oil, sugar and salt; mix well. Gradually add additional flour to make a soft dough. Knead about 5 minutes. Let rest about 20 minutes. Cut dough into 16 pieces. Roll each piece into a 12-inch rope. Place hands on each end of rope and roll in opposite directions. Pick up the twisted rope, holding the ends, and it will twist together. Pinch the end together and place on lightly greased baking sheet. Let rest until double. Brush with egg wash; leave plain or sprinkle with coarse salt, sesame seeds, poppy seeds or grated Parmesan cheese. Bake at 400 F for 10–12 minutes or until golden brown.
